1. Do you support the Charter Process? If not, why not?I intend to vote against the charter referendum. I have a mixed opinion of the value of possible Charter Government proposals. For example, I would enjoy the right to vote on referendums to initiate or repeal laws. However, I think the power to benefit the public can also be used against the public. I worry about the political motives of the interest groups that are offering up candidates.
2. If elected, what changes in County government would you support?
First of all, I would review all recommended changes in our governance to weigh the benefit against the possible harm. Do suggested changes increase or decrease liberty? Do suggested changes generate positive value for the citizens; are they worth the cost? I don't see anything realistic that will stop the growth in the size and scope of government, but I can try to limit the damage. For this reason, I am a single-issue candidate. I believe the county should have an Ombudsman; a central point resource where fraud and waste can be reported, a government watchdog that has authority to review records and publicize findings. This position should have assured funding to prevent the established powers from neutralizing it.
